For our December Meetup, we’re delighted to welcome Neil McDonnell from the University of Glasgow to delve into Museums in the Metaverse – “a ground-breaking two-sided Extended Reality (XR) Cultural Heritage platform that aims to empower diverse visitors to explore cultural assets in new and engaging ways; enable cultural heritage professionals and non-specialist users to create new content; and explore models of use to support sustainable economic and cultural growth”.
As Neil goes on to explain:
“Museum audiences want virtual experiences and are willing to pay for them. Meeting that need, and that new route to revenue, faces multiple barriers familiar to those in the XR space: money, technology, IP, and skills. Our MiM (Museums in the Metaverse) platform tackles these head on. We have developed a no-code, DIY, platform for the museums sector which avoids gnarly IP issues, and gets revenue back to those who need it in order to grow their digital collections: the museums themselves”.
If you’re curious to dive a little further into this project before the day itself, take a look at the link to their website here as well as this introductory video!
We’re looking forward to seeing you there and, as ever, please don’t hesitate to get in contact if you have any questions.
